The Italian contingent at the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Grand Prix is growing with the addition of Matteo Berrettini

Following Lorenzo Musetti, who was announced earlier this week, the Italian contingent at the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Grand Prix welcomes another high-profile new member. The tournament is delighted to announce that Matteo Berrettini will be taking part in its inaugural edition.

Currently ranked 43rd in the world, the 30-year-old Italian is a familiar face on the international circuit. A long-standing member of the Italian national team in several previous editions of the Davis Cup, Matteo Berrettini played a key role in Italy’s
triumphs in 2024 and 2025.

With 10 titles to his name, the Roman has notably distinguished himself through his performances on grass, a surface on which he has built part of his reputation. He reached world number 6 in January 2022 – his highest-ever ranking – and has racked up numerous prestigious victories against the tour’s top players. In particular, he has 12 wins against players in the Top 10, including Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev – then ranked 10th in the world – whom he beat this year at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000.

His track record also demonstrates his ability to perform on the biggest stages. In Grand Slam tournaments, Berrettini reached the semi-finals of the US Open in 2019, then the Australian Open in 2022, where he was defeated by Rafael Nadal. In 2021, he also reached the Wimbledon final, where Novak Djokovic stood in his way of winning the title.

All these achievements point to a highly anticipated debut in Lyon. From 18 to 25 October 2026, spectators at the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Grand Prix will have the chance to see Matteo Berrettini play in Lyon for the first time.
